This 8 hour training series is designed to support child care center owners and directors hone their administrative skills and offer strategies to encourage business growth. This business operations training series consists of modules which build upon one another to support sound business practices and help providers realize a profit while caring for and nurturing our future. Module III of this training will cover Marketing. In this module, you will learn: the definition and value of external and internal marketing; how to articulate your program’s features and values and how to use them as marketing tools; and how data can inform marketing efforts to better utilize time and money. Note: If you register for a class and you are unable to attend, please contact your trainer and let them know so another participant can have your spot. Classes are subject to being rescheduled due to low registration.

In this module, you will learn: best practices for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new employees; a framework for building an effective orientation plan; the components of a staff handbook; and strategies for providing feedback to employees. This director's forum will focus on areas that are covered in the regular licensing and health and safety inspections for child care programs. The state standards will be reviewed as well as how they guide you to success. The 6 basic components of an inspection will be covered, including: when the inspector arrives, the tour, interactions, child and staff interviews, observations, and documentation review. This forum will focus on understanding how maintaining compliance everyday will help you to have a successful experience with licensing visits.

This orientation session is recommended for individuals/programs interested in the VDSS Subsidy Vendor Program to learn about the application process, all program requirements, and resources available to assist you, such as Child Care Aware of Virginia’s technical assistance and training programs, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS).  

Information will be provided on program eligibility, needed documentation, proper document storage, the background check process, TB Screening, required training such as the VDSS Virginia Pre-Service Training for Child Care Staff (10 hours), CPR/First Aid Training, the Virginia Health and Safety Update Annual Training (3 hours), Emergency Preparedness training, other professional development and child care business practices, and how to connect to your local Child Care Aware and Licensing offices for assistance.
