This free class is designed for child care providers. It meets all licensing requirements.

This is a 2-hour virtual course that meets all state regulations for licensed programs. This training is taught by one of our CPR instructors, a registered nurse. There is a $15 fee per person to attend this class. This class will be canceled if we do not have a minimum of 10 people registered.

Are you interested in learning how you can claim your meals for USDA online? This is a great option for providers who are comfortable using their computer. This training is specifically for those providers that use The Childcare Network as their sponsor. This is a virtual class.

This 6-hour virtual training is open to providers that are already subsidy vendors, and those considering it. It answers more questions than the orientation, and is highly recommended. It is in three parts, and providers have a choice to participate in one, two, or all three. Certificates are given each session attended.

1) Understanding Vendor Payment Guideline: 3/25 – 9:00am – 11:00am

In this session, you will learn:

  • HowSubsidy Vendors help Virginia families
  • The components of theSubsidy Vendor Agreement
  • How to obtain a POS machine
  • How to access and operate the Vendor Portal
  • Who to contact for assistance with these items

2) Implementation of Child Care Regulation and Guidance: 3/25 – 11:30am – 1:30pm

 In this session, you will learn:

  • The role Licensing plays in theSubsidy Vendor process
  • The background check process
  • What to expect with annual inspections
  • How to set annual rates
  • What annualtraining is required
  • Procedures for transferring ownership, relocating, or closing a Subsidy Program
  • How to change program types

3) Managing your Business: 3/25 – 2:00pm – 4:00pm

 In this session, you will learn:

  • Your tax responsibilities as aSubsidy Vendor
  • How to prevent fraud
  • Finance tips
  • How to access technical assistance

This orientation session is recommended for individuals/programs interested in the VDSS Subsidy Vendor Program to learn about the application process, all program requirements, and resources available to assist you, such as Child Care Aware of Virginia’s technical assistance and training programs, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS). This class is virtual. No certificate is given for this orientation.

The 3-hour in-person course has been specifically designed for those working in early childhood education. The session will be conducted by the Institute for Childhood Preparedness, a national organization that helps early childhood programs prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters.

Class Participants will learn:

  • Evidence-based techniques and strategies to prepare for and respond to an active shooter incident,
  • How to conduct safety drills, develop a customized plan, and work together to ensure staff, teachers, and children are best prepared to respond to any at-risk situation, and
  • Strategies to keep children calm and quiet during crisis.

*Note: this course is designed to prepare early childhood professionals, not scare them – no live or simulated ammunition will be used in this training.

  • How to effectively communicate with children, families, and staff during and after an emergency

Note: One of the new professional development requirements in the licensing regulations is Emergency Preparedness training. This class meets those requirements. With the new format, it is good for classroom workers and administration alike.
