Good morning Friends,

Fall is here! The leaves are starting to turn, and it is time for our USDA CACFP renewal. All of our family child care programs participating in CACFP, remember to get your new enrollment forms turned in. Beginning in November, you will not be allowed to file a reimbursement claim, if you have not already completed this process. Also, we want to remind you that reimbursement checks may run late for the next couple of months. Even though our renewal paperwork and claims are submitted on time, every other program using CACFP renews at the same time, and the wait times for approval are long.

Remember, for the free first aid classes, if you are a no show, and do not contact us in advance that you are not attending, we reserve the option to not allow you to sign up for future classes. Also, child care programs are limited to 3 people attending per class, unless you are the host. Programs that host are allowed up to 5 people. Children are not allowed. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, the instructor reserves the right to not allow you to stay.

We are also offering a couple of in-person classes on November 1st. The first is Fire Safety, Prevention, & Extinguisher Usage. The course provides participants with classroom and hands-on training. The classroom portion covers fire safety, fire basics/chemistry, the elements of a fire inspection, fire extinguishment techniques, and response options for fires. We then move outside and allow participants to extinguish a live or simulated fire with a fire extinguisher. The second has been presented before, but is well worth your time. It is Intruder Response Preparedness Training for Early Childhood Professionals. Class participants will learn: evidence-based techniques and strategies to prepare for/respond to an active shooter incident;  how to conduct safety drills, develop a customized plan, and work together to ensure staff, teachers, and children are best prepared to respond to any at-risk situation; and strategies to keep children calm and quiet during crisis. *Note: this course is designed to prepare early childhood professionals, not scare them – no live or simulated ammunition will be used in this training. Both classes are being presented by The Institute for Childhood Preparedness.
